Breakfast of Champions: the Dalai Lama’s tsampa

Tsampa is a Tibetan staple food made from barley. Tsampa is highly valued for its excellent nutritional value. For centuries, Tibetan nomads and pilgrims have depended on tsampa to sustain them on their long journeys, and we hope you will find this humble Tibetan outpost useful too!

Tsampa porridge has all the nutritional benefits plus it’s quick and easy.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • 1.Pour hot water, tea or milk into a bowl and mix well with a fork until it is a mushy consistency for a great breakfast.
  • 2.Add fresh fruits such as berries, apples, pears, bananas and if you want a thicker consistency, add yoghurt...be creative

INGREDIENTS

  • 2-4 heaped tablespoons of traditional Tsampa
  • 1 teaspoon honey (not necessary)
  • 1 teaspoon butter or ghee (not necessary)
  • ½ cup of hot water, tea or milk of your choice (we recommend oat milk)
  • fresh or dried fruit of your choice
