Breakfast of Champions: the Dalai Lama’s tsampa

Tsampa is a Tibetan staple food made from barley. Tsampa is highly valued for its excellent nutritional value. Tibetan nomads and pilgrims have depended on tsampa for centuries to sustain them on their long journeys, and we hope you enjoy this delicious porridge too.

Tsampa porridge has all the nutritional benefits plus it’s quick and easy.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • 1.Pour hot water or milk into a bowl and mix well with a fork until it is the consistency you want for a great breakfast.
  • 2.Add fresh, dried or cooked fruits such as berries, apples, pears, bananas and if you want to make the porridge even a little bit richer, add yoghurt.....you can also add any nuts (we recommend to soak them beforehand - not necessary) or cocoa, cinnamon, chocolate, you name it :)

INGREDIENTS

  • 2-4 heaped tablespoons of traditional Tsampa
  • 1 teaspoon honey (not necessary)
  • 1 teaspoon butter or ghee (not necessary)
  • ½ cup hot water or milk of your choice (we recommend oat milk)
  • fresh or dried fruit of your choice
